Avatar: Fire and Ash has now completed its first weekend at the box office, and it didn’t take the film long to pass one of the best action thrillers of the last few years. The third installment in James Cameron’s hit sci-fi franchise picked up $345 million at the global box office over its opening weekend, including $88 million in America and $257 million from international territories. This $345 million total is more than double the collective gross of The Beekeeper, the 2024 action thriller led by Jason Statham. The Beekeeper finished its theatrical run with $152 million at the worldwide box office. Avatar: Fire and Ash has a long way to go if it’s going to continue the series’ trend of reaching $2 billion at the global box office, but it isn’t all that far off either of its predecessors thus far. Avatar 3’s opening weekend total is between Avatar (2009) and Avatar: The Way of Water, meaning the film can still reach its desired total despite what might seem like a slow start. It currently sits at a franchise-low 67% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, but audiences have given the film a Verified Hot 91% on the Popcornmeter. This will certainly bode well for its word-of-mouth in the coming weeks. Many were expecting Avatar: Fire and Ash to make a much bigger splash during its opening weekend, but the film was always going to play the long game rather than recoup most of its total on opening weekend. It’s also important to remember that people are traveling to visit family for the holidays, so many who are interested in watching it haven’t had the chance to see it yet. It will be much easier to predict how it will finish at the box office in a few weeks.
Is ‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’ on Streaming?

Avatar: Fire and Ash is not available to watch on streaming or VOD — the only way to see the sci-fi blockbuster right now is in a movie theater, as James Cameron intended. It will likely be quite a while before the film arrives on Disney+, considering the studio has lofty expectations for its box office performance. Avatar: The Way of Water began streaming on Disney+ on June 7 in 2023, after its premiere in 2022, meaning Fire and Ash will likely arrive on Disney+ at around the same time.
