Clair Obscur Sequel Title Officially Teased
With Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 having taken the gaming world by storm, one of the biggest questions on everyone’s minds right now is what’s next for the breakout indie studio. While there haven’t been any official confirmations about the next game from Sandfall Interactive, a recent interview made it clear that we haven’t seen everything the franchise has to offer just yet. In an Edge 419 interview covered in a recent Knowledge newsletter, Expedition 33 lead Guillaume Broche talked about the next game being a similarly-scaled production to Expedition 33. ComicBook’s coverage of the news highlighted a comment that Broche made earlier this year, when he declared that “Clair Obscur is the franchise name. Expedition 33 is one of the stories we wanted to tell in this franchise.” While not directly confirming the full title of their next release, it’s likely that the first half will at least include the iconic Clair Obscur tagline, followed by the title of a brand-new entry.

Confirming What We All Hoped, And Secretly Expected
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 was one of the best RPGs of 2025, so it’s been great to hear that Sandfall Interactive is already considering what a sequel to Expedition 33 would actually look like so soon after release. With the term Clair Obscur being a French translation for a strong contrast of light and dark that even reflects two major characters in the series, it’s all but confirmed that Expedition 33’s successor will take place in the familiar game world. Although the massive success of Expedition 33 raised speculation on whether the indie studio would expand into a larger-scale production, the same interview saw Broche respond with, “No, I think it’s good to have limitations when you are creative…we’d have to be hands-on doing it for ourselves.” While this doesn’t clear up anything else we can expect until the next entry in the Clair Obscur franchise releases, you can take solace in knowing it will have the same hand-crafted approach as its GOTY-winning predecessor. Having been heavily inspired by JRPGs like Final Fantasy, it’s also entirely possible the next Clair Obscur will take a less connected approach and explore alternative painted worlds parallel to those in Expedition 33.

Even if we did get a free DLC to celebrate Expedition 33’s victory at The Game Awards this year, there’s no current estimate of when we’ll be able to jump back into Sandfall Interactive’s beautifully somber world.
Despite the lack of an official timeline, if the development of Expedition 33 is anything to go by, the wait won’t be nearly as long for its successor, and it is likely to be released much sooner than you think. Without the need to spend time raising funds, searching for cast members, and forming its development structure, Sandfall Interactive has everything it needs to jump right into creating its next masterpiece, with the development of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33’s sequel likely to be even shorter than if it tried expanding its development team.
